Congratulations to Leanne Li, Rebeca Pietrosanu, and Linden Thomas for recently being awarded highly competitive awards.
Leanne was awarded the following.
1. The Gerald and Margaret Godsoe Scholarship with support from the Ward family funds (2025). This scholarship has been established by the Godsoe family to support a highly qualified and motivated individual entering the Master of Environmental Studies (MES) program at Dalhousie University.
2. The Neil Munro Parks and Protected Areas Award (2026). This award is to provide support for graduate studies in protected areas planning, design, policy, protection or management. Students who receive the award should be conducting research that is applied in nature and relates to potential or existing parks or protected areas, including but not limited to: National Parks, Provincial Parks or Wilderness Areas, marine protected areas, and National Marine Conservation Areas. Studies that relate to the application of science in decision-making with respect to protected areas are of particular interest.

Rebeca was awarded the following.
1. Michael J. Keen Summer Research Award (2025). The Keen Award provides stipend funding for a female undergraduate student from the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences to work on a summer research project, similar to an NSERC USRA. The successful student will work closely with a supervisor within or outside the Department with the goal of exposing the student to scientific research work in general and to specific research in the field of Earth and Environmental Sciences.
2. Faye Sobey Undergraduate Summer Research Award (2025, 2026). This one is extra special, as it is quite rare that anyone has won this award twice in a row.
3. Science Atlantic Undergraduate Research Award – First Place Oral Presentation (2026)
4. Best Honours Thesis Presentation Award (2026) The Best Honours Thesis Presentation Award is awarded annually to the student that is judged to have given the best Honours Thesis presentation.
Linden was awarded the following.
1. Joy M. Cunningham Undergraduate Research Award (2026). This award is made possible by a generous gift from Dalhousie alumna Dr. Joy Cunningham, who established an endowment to provide the opportunity for one student each year, enrolled in Environmental Science or the College of Sustainability, to work on a research project aimed at environmental protection, restoration or sustainable use of natural resources.
