The Westwood Lab is committed to values of application and coproduction.
This means that our work addresses real-world environmental challenges. It is also guided by the perspectives of those who are affected by these challenges and/or responsible for managing them.
For an articulation of this ethic, see: Toward actionable, coproduced research on boreal birds focused on building respectful partnerships.
We are equally committed to principles of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Our collectively-developed Lab Manual (forthcoming) articulates every lab member’s responsibilities to each other, to our institution, and the Treaties of the lands we inhabit.
Our code of conduct commits members to upholding an inclusive, discrimination-free environment, and supports us in maintaining work-life balance. Our internal mentoring program pairs senior and junior lab members to ensure a support system is in place. Above all, we are committed to learning and growing together.
